Unlocking Financial Success: The Power of Self-Guidance and Practical Knowledge
The number one reason you're not getting ahead financially is that you're sabotaging yourself without even knowing it. What I am about to tell you may be hard to understand at first, but once you grasp it, it will change your life. Respectfully, never take financial advice from someone who has never built anything. Seek their wisdom, but not their financial advice. There's more wisdom in observing than in doing, but true mastery can only come from direct personal experience.
Why is it that when you want to learn about fitness, you find a coach who is fit themselves? If you want to learn about dancing, learn from someone who is a dancer. But when it comes to your finances, you are taking advice from friends and family. In Africa, as soon as you start making money, everyone gives you financial advice. Let's get some goats, let’s buy land, let’s invest in bitcoin , they say. Please, find yourself a mentor. Find someone who has been on the same path to talk to. Learn to tap into the grace of people who have made it. Don't find a coach, and don't find yourself a motivational teacher. A motivational speaker provides a lot of motivation, but if your dreams are big enough, even motivation has its limits. Motivation is for people with small dreams. Motivation is an emotion, like anger. You can't be angry forever. If you are angry all the time, you need to see a doctor. If you have someone in your family who is motivated all the time, you need to invite a doctor. Motivation is an emotion, and that's why you get motivated one day and lose it the next. The emotion of motivation wears off. Do you wonder why we have so many financial coaches and motivational speakers, but nobody is getting wealthy in Africa? I understand in Nigeria, they have started beating motivational speakers. Yes, because I am motivated, but do I have sense? What do I do with this motivation? When someone motivates you, you have spikes of the emotion of motivation, and the minute they walk away, you lose the motivation. You will hate yourself and hate the one who motivated you. In fact, motivation is our problem. The problem with Africa is that we are too motivated, too much motivation with no guidance. We are tired of motivation. It creates anxiety. Too much motivation is the reason a lot of youth have gone into scams, but there is too much motivation with zero guidance. Motivation, like any other emotion, has a specific purpose in our lives, and it should end there. The primary evolutionary purpose of your motivation is to trigger you to accomplish your goals, like a car key. When you drive your car, you don't ignite the car keys every now and then. We don't need motivation anymore; we need guidance. Somebody to cut soap for us. Somebody who has been on the same journey. Don't motivate me! Show me your scars. Where have you been? What difficulties did you face? Show me proof. Otherwise, on what authority are you talking to me?
But no one is teaching practical knowledge. Do you know why? You're not going to like this, but practical knowledge cannot be taught. If practical knowledge could be taught, respectfully, a finance professor shouldn't be broke. You know how to drive a car because somebody guided you on how to drive. Nobody can teach you how to drive. What you have learned in school is beautiful, but let it stay within the confines of academia. A system that teaches you to draw a pig and label it can't have your best interest in mind. Something has failed, but we cannot shout it loud enough because it's better than the alternative. It's better than absolute illiteracy. A lot of motivators are teaching motivation because to guide people you have to have had some degree of experience yourself. Make no mistake I have come to motivate you but I hope to motivate you once. I want to be the spark that ignites your journey to your dreams but more importantly I want to guide you — Adnan Saani Dangotey
